Help & Setup Guide

Everything you need to install and run Lab Management System across your clinic.

Server vs. Client — Overview

If your clinic has more than one computer that needs to use Lab Management System, they need to share one database so everyone sees the same patients and results. To do this, you install the software in two different "modes":

  • Server Setup — installed once, on ONE main computer (usually the front desk or lab computer that stays on). This computer holds the actual database and a small SQL Server Express program that manages it.
  • Client Setup — installed on every OTHER computer. These connect over your local network to the Server computer's database, so they don't store any patient data themselves.
Only have one computer in your clinic? Download the Server installer — everything will run locally on that one machine, no network setup needed.

Server Setup (Main Computer)

  1. Download the Server installer from the homepage and run it. This is a larger download (~700MB) because it includes SQL Server Express.
  2. If Windows shows a security warning ("Windows protected your PC" or Smart App Control blocked this app), see Troubleshooting below for how to allow it.
  3. The installer will silently install SQL Server Express — this can take several minutes. Don't close the installer during this step.
  4. Once finished, open the app. Go to Activation and either start your 14-day free trial or log in with your subscription email/password.
  5. Note this computer's name (see below) — you'll need to give it to every Client computer you set up next.

Client Setup (Other Computers)

  1. Make sure the Server computer is turned on and the app has been opened there at least once.
  2. Download the Client installer (a much smaller download — it doesn't include SQL Server Express) from the homepage and run it on this computer.
  3. You'll be asked for the Server Computer Name — type in the name you noted from the Server computer (see below for how to find it).
  4. Finish the installer and open the app — it will connect to the Server computer's database automatically.
Both computers must be on the same local network (same office WiFi/router). Client Setup will not work over the internet or from a different network.

Finding the Server's Computer Name

On the Server computer, do one of the following:

  • Right-click This PC (on the Desktop or in File Explorer) → Properties → look for "Device name".
  • Or press Windows key, type cmd, press Enter, then type hostname and press Enter.

Type that exact name into the Client Setup's "Server Computer Name" field (capitalization doesn't matter).

Connecting the Computers

"Same local network" just means all your computers are connected to the same WiFi router or the same network cable/switch — the same way your printer or phone connects to WiFi at the clinic.

1. Check what you already have

Most clinics already have a WiFi router (for printing, mobile phones, etc.). If your Server and Client computers are already connected to that same WiFi, you don't need to do anything extra — just go ahead with Client Setup.

2. Test the connection

On the Client computer, open Command Prompt (press Windows key, type cmd, press Enter) and type:

ping ServerComputerName

(replace ServerComputerName with the name you found in the previous step). If you see replies coming back, the two computers can see each other and Client Setup will work. If it says "could not find host" or times out, the two computers aren't on the same network yet — see the next step.

3. No shared network yet?

Buy a basic WiFi router (any inexpensive one works) and connect all the computers to it — either by WiFi or with an ethernet cable. No special configuration is needed inside the router itself; simply having all the computers join the same network is enough for Lab Management System to work.

Trial & Subscription

  • Every installation includes a 14-day free trial, started from the Activation screen — no payment needed.
  • When your trial ends, or if you'd like to subscribe directly, visit the Subscribe page.
  • After your payment is verified (usually within 24 hours for local payment methods, or instantly for card payment), log in from Activation → Login using the email and password you set at signup.

Troubleshooting

Windows blocked the installer ("Smart App Control" or "Windows protected your PC")

This happens because the installer isn't yet digitally signed. Click "More info" on the warning screen, then "Run anyway". If the button doesn't appear, Smart App Control may need to be turned off temporarily in Windows Security settings.

Client computer can't connect to the Server

Double-check: (1) both computers are on the same network, (2) the Server computer is turned on and the app has been opened there at least once, (3) the computer name you entered during Client Setup exactly matches the Server's actual computer name, (4) Windows Firewall on the Server computer isn't blocking the connection — ask whoever manages your network to confirm.

Login is slow the first time after installing

This is normal — the very first check contacts our server to confirm your license. After that, the app caches your status locally and starts instantly, even offline, for several days at a time.
